I met Frank Ferrara in the West Point barber shop on “R” Day, cutting the hair of the Plebes, who were still so new that they had yet to take the oath of allegiance on the plain. This was a day they had looked forward to for a long time, and now they were here, getting their hair cut off as one of the first rites of being in the Corps. Looking at the mirror behind him I thought I caught the faces of the past watching with some amusement… they were there… they’re always there…I am sure of it. The mirror images from left to right are: Generals, Pershing, Patton, Lee, Bradley, Eisenhower, Ridgway, Davis, Grant, Westmoreland, MacArthur, Thayer. The figure in the upper left represents all Cadets, and the figure in the upper right corner represents all women cadets. Mr. Ferrara cut hair at the West Point barber shop for 32 years before retiring in 2003. He lives in nearby Cornwall on Hudson. I hope you enjoy this presentation. Thank you Mr. Ferrara for allowing us to look into your mirror. Signed and numbered limited edition prints of this (23.38” width, 15.5” height) are available from the artist for $180.00. Paul Steucke
